CEREC Same-Day Crowns

The Future of Dental Crowns: The CEREC® Technology Explained

Imagine restoring a damaged tooth with a permanent, custom-made, and beautiful ceramic crown, all in a single, convenient visit. At Meadowbrook Dental, this is not a glimpse into the future; it's the advanced standard of care we offer our patients in Plainview and across Long Island today, thanks to revolutionary CEREC® technology. This sophisticated system allows us to take a process that once required weeks and multiple appointments and condense it into one seamless, comfortable experience.

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. In simple terms, it is an advanced CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing) system that gives us the ability to design, fabricate, and place your final crown in-house, all while you wait. It completely eliminates the need for goopy impressions, unreliable temporary crowns, and a lengthy two-week wait for an outside lab.

The technology works in four impressive steps:

  1. The Digital Scan: After preparing your tooth, we use a sleek digital scanner to create a highly precise 3D model of your mouth.

  2. The Digital Design (CAD): On a chairside computer, we use the 3D model to meticulously design your perfect, custom crown, ensuring the bite, fit, and shape are exact.

  3. The In-Office Milling (CAM): The digital design is sent wirelessly to our on-site milling machine. This robotic unit then precisely carves your new crown from a solid block of high-grade, tooth-colored ceramic in about 15-20 minutes.

  4. The Final Placement: We then custom-glaze and polish the new crown to match your natural teeth before permanently bonding it into place. You leave our office with a fully restored, permanent tooth.

Your Questions About CEREC Same-Day Technology Answered

1. Are CEREC crowns as strong and long-lasting as lab-made crowns? Yes, absolutely. CEREC crowns are milled from a single block of advanced ceramic, a material renowned for its exceptional strength, durability, and resistance to fracture. With proper care, your same-day crown is designed to last for 10-15 years or more, just like a traditional crown.

2. How can a high-quality crown really be made that quickly? The speed comes from the incredible efficiency of the all-digital workflow. By eliminating the need to ship a physical impression to an outside lab and wait for them to create the crown, the CEREC system condenses a multi-week process into about two hours, without ever sacrificing the quality or precision of the final result.

3. Is the crown really made of good material? Yes. The ceramic blocks used for CEREC crowns are high-grade, metal-free, and biocompatible. This material not only provides excellent strength but also has an optical quality that mimics the translucency of natural tooth enamel, resulting in a beautiful and lifelike restoration.

4. Does the one-visit crown process hurt? No. The preparation of your tooth is done under effective local anesthesia to ensure you are completely comfortable. The scanning, design, and milling portions of the process are entirely non-invasive and painless.

5. Am I a good candidate for a CEREC same-day crown? CEREC technology is the ideal solution for the vast majority of single-tooth crown and onlay restorations. It's perfect for repairing teeth that are cracked, decayed, or have undergone a root canal. During your consultation, we will confirm if a one-visit crown is the best clinical option for your specific needs.

Why Our Investment in CEREC® Technology Benefits You

Our commitment to offering CEREC technology to our patients in Plainview and across Long Island is a commitment to providing a superior dental experience.

1. We Respect Your Time with One-Visit Convenience: Your schedule is busy. We have invested in this technology to eliminate the need for multiple appointments, allowing you to receive your complete, permanent restoration in a single, efficient visit.

2. Unparalleled Precision with a Digital Workflow: The fully digital process, from the 3D scan to the computer-controlled milling, removes the potential for human error associated with traditional impression materials and lab work. This results in a restoration with an incredibly precise and accurate fit.

3. Complete Control for a Perfect Result: With CEREC, your dentist is also your master ceramicist. By designing and fabricating your crown in-office, we have complete artistic and clinical control over the final shape, fit, and color, ensuring a perfect result without any back-and-forth with a lab.

4. A Modern, Comfortable Dental Experience: We are dedicated to making your care as comfortable as possible. CEREC technology allows us to do away with goopy impression putty and unreliable temporary crowns, which are two of the most disliked parts of the traditional crown process.

5. Durable, Beautiful, Biocompatible Restorations: We deliver strong, metal-free restorations that not only look and feel like your natural teeth but are also made from biocompatible materials that work in harmony with your body.
